From 6 April to 14 June, Curiosi di Natura propose “Pleasures of the Carso – Spring 2026”: five walks to experience the nature, culture and gastronomy of well-known and less well-known localities of the Carso around Trieste and Slovenia.

As you take in the spectacular seascapes, woods and cultivated areas, the local environment and ecology are illustrated by our Curiosi di Natura guides, together with live readings (in Italian) of poetry, literature, history and culture.

Initiative within the "Springtime Gentle Mobility" project promoted by Alleanza per la Mobilità Dolce (A.Mo.Do.) with the main Italian associations involved in gentle mobility.

The excursions are all slow-paced, along mainly flat paths, and are suitable for persons of all ages and fitness levels, in normal physical condition.

Also, every day, from April 6 until June 21, participants will be able to taste typical dishes at local restaurants at a discounted price. On signing up for the excursion, in fact, each participant will receive a 10% discount coupon valid for two persons at the “Sapori del Carso” restaurants.

EASTER MONDAY 6 APRIL “From Lipica towards Lokev” Pleasant, mostly level trail across grasslands and woods at the foot of Mount Cocusso, amidst the first blooms of spring and the vibrant green of the leaves.
Meeting point: 9.10 am, Basovizza pond (road to the Lipica border crossing). Bus n. 51 from Trieste. Transfer by car to the trail’s starting point.

SUNDAY 26 APRIL "Along the Carso ridge at Santa Croce" Scenic route amidst holm oaks, spring blossoms and eroded rocks starting from the typical Carso village of Santa Croce. Stop at the Slataper Lookout for views of the Gulf and Miramare Castle. With themed readings.
Meeting point: 9.10 am, Santa Croce (Trieste), Provincial Road n. 1 at turning for the Coast Road (entrance to Civil Protection). Bus n. 44 from Trieste.

SUNDAY 10 MAY “Padriciano and the Carso ridge” Spectacular itinerary above Trieste, through the colourful May blossoms to Sella di Trebiciano, following the trail once travelled by the mlekarice, the women who used to supply the families of Trieste with milk. Return through the pine forest.
Meeting point: 9.10 am, Area Science Park bus stop in Padriciano. Bus n. 51 from Trieste.

SUNDAY 17 MAY “Mitski park – Mythical park” of Rodik (Slovenia) Suggestive historical-archaeological park close to the Pesek and Hrpelje-Kozina border crossing. A moderately difficult walk along trails and dirt tracks through majestic beech and chestnut woods in full bloom.
Meeting point: 9.10 am, big parking lot at the Synchrotron in Basovizza, at the bus stop for bus n. 51 from Trieste. Car transfer to the walk’s starting point.

SUNDAY 15 JUNE “The lavender fields of Povir” (Sezana) Through shady woods, stunning dolinas and views of the mountains, up to the village of Povir (Slo). Visit to the farm that grows lavender and medicinal herbs, with tastings of local produce.
Meeting venue (8.45 am): parking lot of the former border crossing for Lipica; then, by car to the start of the walk.
